Whiplash post-traumatic treatment
Each year, in the last week of November Toronto hosts the largest Health Expo in the world, which includes over 500 stands. It is there that I promote Cranio-Sacral Therapy; ostheopathic treatment in the broad sense of that expression, as well as Medical Intuitive diagnosing.
During the expo I receive patients, offer my diagnosis and give advice. One of the patients, Ross was quite literally in a miserable state of health. She told me her story of four long years of suffering caused by a seemingly small injury.
Ross is a well-educated and very attractive 47-year old woman whose life before the accident she suffered was unbelievably active and filled with fascinating events. She ran an art -selling agency and was just on her way to one of the clients, when she had an accident. Her car was hit from the rear by a pick-up truck. The vehicle was almost intact apart from a fractured bumper, and so was her body, which meant she did not have to be hospitalized. She only started to feel bad after a couple of days and it would continue for four years.
Ross had headaches, shoulder and neck pain, her hands were hurting and going numb. These complaints were often accompanied by nausea, which was making normal existence impossible for her. Any activity would only amplify the symptoms. Medical tests with the use of the most complicated modern devices, numerous X-rays, a few rounds of EMRI did not point to any injuries - whether in the bone or muscle structures nor in the nervous system. The diagnosis was "a post-traumatic spinal injury" also known as the "whiplash".
An extremely painful and ineffective rehabilitation process began. For the next consecutive years, the patient felt so bad she practically did not leave the house. She required assistance in the simplest household chores. The physical difficulties were soon accompanied by emotional symptoms: Ros would wake up in the night having a panic fear attack. The lack of success in her treatment caused a type of a situational depression to develop.
During the examination I found out numerous cases of muscle tension as well as lymphatic stasis in the area of the pectoral girdle and cervical spine, which were the cause for the circulation disorder. The symptoms were accompanied by the fact that her hands were very cold, numb and aching. The neurological test pointed to a minor misplacement of the cervical vertebrae 5, 6 and 7. The tense diaphragm not only blocked breathing, but also caused circulating pain and depression. As a consequence of the body's insistent attempts to balance the longstanding tensions, her pelvis was rotated in one direction. This in turn caused asymmetry and chronic pain in the sacral-lumbar area as well as certain instability in the posture.
In Ross condition it was necessary to work on the entire connective tissue which underwent the trauma; to conduct a lymphatic drainage and to improve circulation and breathing through the release of tensions.
Already the first session of Cranio-Sacral Therapy was a great relief in her suffering. Each consecutive one caused a major improvement of her general well-being. After three months of Cranio-Sacral Therapy I set about releasing destructive emotions, which were delaying the healing process.
Step by step the patient dramatically released her fear, anxiety, a sense of threat and other negative emotions. She changed beyond belief - from a nervous, fearful and tearful person she turned into a calm and joyful woman she once was. The panic fear attacks as well as the post-trauma hypersensitivity were gone. During the treatment a purifying diet according to Dr Eva Dabrowska was advised, as for many years the patient had been taking enormous amounts of painkillers.
A few months have passed since our first meeting. Ross is again a happy, active person she used to be and finally she is able to live her life to the full. Ross' story had a happy ending and the patient is rapidly regaining her physical and emotional balance.
Nevertheless, it sometimes occurs that a small neglected trauma can result in post-traumatic epilepsy, cerebral stroke or a serious case of paralysis, manifesting in a few years after the accident. It is caused by the fact that the spine is connected to nerves, which supply with information our whole body, including inner organs.
We should therefore take care of ourselves. Each, even minor trauma should be treated seriously.
